The 2014 EPA Champion of Champions was designed for players and teams who had already earned honours in English Pool Association-affiliated local leagues. Entry was based on being a current local-league champion in one of three disciplines: Team, Men’s Individual or Ladies Individual.
How qualification worked
The competition created a progression from local-league success to regional and then national competition. League champions were registered by their parent league rather than entering themselves directly.
Early rounds were organised geographically to reduce travel while, where possible, avoiding immediate rematches between competitors from the same local area. Successful players and teams then progressed into regional rounds before the remaining qualifiers advanced to the national finals.
National finals at Great Yarmouth
The national stage was held at Vauxhall Holiday Park in Great Yarmouth, bringing together qualifiers from around the country to compete for the Champion of Champions titles and prize fund.
The original 2014 notice also required supporting evidence from affiliated leagues, including verified league tables, knockout results and player or team registrations. Singles entries were linked to a qualifying team entry under the rules applying at the time.
Lancashire and the Champion of Champions
Lancashire had already recorded a major success in the competition the previous year, when Andy Croasdale won the Men’s Champion of Champions and Darwen’s Jamie Ridsdale reached the semi-finals. Read the Lancashire 2013 Champion of Champions report.
