Hyndburn Hotshots lead Lancashire challenge with last-16 finish

Hyndburn Hotshots achieved Lancashire’s best finish at the 2026 EPA National Interleague Knockout Cup, reaching the last 16 as three of the county’s four teams progressed beyond the group stage.

Lancaster reached the last 32, Clitheroe Rhinos made the last 64 and Bowerham Jolly Boys completed their campaign in the groups. The tournament concluded on Sunday 27 September, with Nottingham A beating Medway A 10–8 in the final.

Hyndburn Hotshots reach the last 16

Hotshots carried Lancashire’s challenge furthest after coming through Group 11 unbeaten, drawing 9–9 with both Norfolk N Chancers and Mid Sussex Ix. A 10–8 victory over St Ives A in Saturday’s last 64 booked their return for Sunday.

They then beat Croydon B 10–6 in the last 32, securing a second knockout victory and a place among the final 16 teams. Their run ended with a 4–10 defeat to eventual runners-up Medway A, who also ended Clitheroe’s campaign earlier in the draw.

Lancaster finish in the last 32

Lancaster produced the biggest Lancashire winning margin of the weekend with a 14–4 victory over South Norfolk in Group 10. They followed it with a 9–6 win against Croydon Mavericks before edging London City 11–9 in the last 64.

That gave Lancashire two teams in Sunday’s last 32, but Lancaster’s next opponents, Rugby Dishers And Drinkers, proved too strong, winning 10–2 to bring their campaign to a close.

Clitheroe Rhinos progress from a tight group

Clitheroe Rhinos emerged from an exceptionally tight Group 7 in which every match finished 9–9. Their draws against S.L.K.P.A. 2 and North East Norfolk A were enough to take them into the knockout draw, where Medway A won their last-64 meeting 10–4.

Bowerham Jolly Boys’ group campaign

Bowerham Jolly Boys faced Stow A and Croydon B in Group 13. A 5–13 defeat to Stow A was followed by a 3–9 loss to Croydon B, ending their tournament in the group stage.

Two Sunday qualifiers, three knockout entrants and a last-16 finish for Hotshots gave Lancashire plenty to recognise across the weekend. Well done to all four teams for representing the county.
