Final Lancashire Mens Interleague League Table + Merits 01.12.2013

It’s been a good season all round, we started off with 12 teams over two leagues, and we finished off with 12 teams.

1st Division was a cat & mouse chase for the title between Wigan ‘A’ & B&DPL, Wigan ‘A’/B&DPL were unbeaten going into the last game where they faced each other but B&DPL required a massive 13-5 win to become 1st division champions the match finished 9-9, so in the end Wigan are the 2013 1st division winners & B&DPL runners up, Congratulations. Clitheroe finished a respectable 3rd who have also gained a place for the National Interleague Finals in March. Lancaster finish 4th who will now meet the 2nd division winner in a playoff to guarantee the last place for the National Interleague finals.

At the other end of the table it has been a different story for the other Blackburn & District Pool league team, Blackburn who failed to achieve the tremendous heights of the 2012 season, both Blackburn & Darwen will be in the 2nd Division for 2014, should we continue with the 2 league tier format.

Bury_cb_armsMoving on to the 2nd Division teams were playing for the win but also the opportunity of a Gt Yarmouth playoff for the National finals in march, from the offset Bury set the pace in the 2nd division, Bury were unbeaten going into the last game where they faced Atherton A who could also win the league but required a massive win to become 2nd division champions, also in the mix was Leyland who were 1pt behind Atherton. Leyland went on to shoot themselves in the foot and cancelled their remaining fixture so fell away at the last hurdle, this automatically gave Bury & Atherton A to Division 1. Anyhow the match finished 11-7 to Atherton which stopped Burys unbeaten round but wasn’t enough to stop them from becoming 2nd Division winners 2013. Congratulations Bury.

The 1st division merit winner was settled in the most ironic finale, Darren Wareing (B&DPL) & Glenn Cahir (Wigan A) were tied on the same frames played same frames won going into the last match of the season, anyhow both Darren & Glenn both won their 1st frames, which led to the 2nd half, law & behold they were paired off against each other, was this fate….? Darren Wareing went onto win the frame & is the 1st Division Merit winner 2013, congratulations, Darren will also be offered a wildcard into the County squad for the 2014 season. Congratulations.

The 2nd division merit winner was a battle between 2 team mates from Bury Mike Giles & Neil Gaunt. In the last match v Atherton Mike won both frames, where as Neil lost both. Congratulations to Mike Giles 2nd division merit winner 2013
