Shaun Chipperfield took the Metropole Challenge title with a nail biting deciding frame victory in the final.
Both finalists had tough run ins as would be expected with such a high quality event. Chipperfield narrowly defeated Brian Halcrow 5-4 in the semis with a clearance off the break in the decider to add to 3 previous break and dishes he’d had in the match giving Halcrow little to look back on in reflection whilst Brierley had a convincing 5-0 victory against a seemingly below par Harjeet Singh in the semis as well as taking out England player and World Masters finalist Dave Fernandez in the quarters.
The final was played out to a high standard with several clearances from the break and mistakes being few and far between. There was little to separate the two players and the deciding frame was the longest of the match with a cagey safety frame ensuing before Chipperfield saw his opportunity and seized it to take out a quality finish and take the second Challenge title of the season and the winner’s cheque of £1000.
