Lancashire junior Michael Chippendale won the Under-16 Boys title at the Ambition National Finals in Coventry in October 2013. The victory came shortly after he had represented Lancashire Boys & Girls Clubs at the national event and added another notable achievement to Lancashire’s youth pool record.
Eight-player national final
The Under-16 event brought together eight finalists. The opening stage was played as a round robin, with best-of-three matches. Michael won five of his seven group matches to qualify for the knockout stage.
Semi-final and final
In the semi-final Michael defeated a West Midlands player 2-1 to earn his place in the national final. The final was played over the best of five frames against a Welsh-based opponent.
Michael moved 2-0 ahead before his opponent fought back to level at 2-2. The deciding frame went all the way to the black, where Michael completed the win and secured the national Under-16 title.
A Lancashire youth achievement
Lancashire youth manager Diane Stocks congratulated Michael on the achievement. The title forms part of a strong period for Lancashire junior pool in which county players were progressing through regional competition, national championships and England pathways.
