Champion of Champions 2014

April 23, 2014 in Competitions, EPA News by Martin West

epa_round__83817_thumbThis is definitely one of the hardest events any team or player can aspire to win. In order to enter you must first be your local league current champion(s) in one of three disciplines (Team, Individual, Ladies Individual). As if that wasn’t hard enough you must then take on other local league players who have achieved the same feat in their local league.

In this competition the playing standards are high from the word go. The only thing you can be sure of is that it will get tougher and tougher the further you progress. It is only open to leagues affiliated to the English Pool Association, if your league is not affiliated contact the EPA secretary for details of affiliation.

Players play all season in their local team up and down the country aiming for their local league honours and over 35,000 players are involved in this event. As soon as player signs for their local pub/club team they could be taking the first step on the road to becoming a National Champion. Usually the local leagues run their individual knockout events at the close of the normal season. From that point on it’s everyone for themselves. Read the rest of this entry →

Tour 2 Winner – Phil Harrison

April 20, 2014 in Competitions by Matt Brierley

The second tour of the 2014 season was played out in new surroundings at the Hilton Metropole but it was a familiar name that took home the title. Phil Harrison showed just why he has a feared reputation with a fantastic performance, dropping only 4 frames in his first 4 matches. He then dispatched of tour 1 semi-finalist Steve Martin in an attacking display from both players with very little missed. Harrison then showed his class by beating both of the tour 1 finalists 8-5 in successive games in the semis and final to pick up his first tour title of 2014. Gavin Lomax followed up his tour 1 final with a repeat effort at tour 2 and looks a firm favourite to pick up a title before the year is out.

FINAL PHIL HARRISON [8] GAVIN LOMAX [5]
SEMIS Craig Waddingham 8-5 Ben Flack 8-6
QUARTERS Steve Martin 7-3 Jeremy Hooper 7-3
LAST 16 Ryan Shaw 7-2 Chris Gill 7-5
LAST 32 Luke Bowry 7-0 Dylan Leary 7-2
LAST 64 Neil Kelley 7-1 Reece Townsend 7-1
LAST 128 Michael Beeston 7-1 Phil Naylor 7-2
