We remember and celebrate the life of Tracey Hall, a truly beloved and unforgettable member of the Lancashire County pool community.
Tracey first picked up a cue at the age of 20, joined by her younger sister Wendy, who was just 18 at the time. From that moment on, the two of them shared a journey filled with laughter, friendship, and fierce competition, exploring the pool scene across Preston. Over the years, Tracey became the cornerstone of every team she was part of. As captain of many sides, she led with the perfect balance of discipline, determination, and warmth. It was Tracey who came up with the team name “The Nomads,” a playful nod to their habit of moving from pub to pub, a name that perfectly captured her humorous and spirited approach to the game.
Tracey’s love of pool was not only something she shared with Wendy, but also with her husband Chris and her daughter Emma. She had been a proud and passionate member of the Lancashire county team for many years, treasuring the camaraderie of her teammates while competing across the North West of England. In February this year, she stood by with immense pride as a Lancashire supporter, mum and friend, when Emma and the Lancashire ladies travelled to the county finals at Hemsby Beach. Watching Emma and her friends rise to the challenge, become national champions, and carry home that huge trophy was a moment of pure joy for her. One of her proudest moments came when Emma qualified to play for England, and Tracey travelled alongside her, bursting with pride as she watched her daughter represent her country.
Beyond playing, Tracey gave back to the sport she loved by serving on the Preston Ladies’ Pool League committee. As competition secretary, she poured her energy into organising events that brought people together, events filled with laughter, community spirit, and the fun that she valued so much. She will live on in the hearts of all her Monday and Tuesday poolies, so many of whom will treasure not only her skill at the table, but the countless fond and funny memories of having her as a teammate and a friend.
Tracey also played Interleague, alongside Emma and Wendy. Together they travelled with their teammates to places like Great Yarmouth, staying in caravans, sharing adventures, and making memories that will last forever. One of the team’s fondest memories is of a night after a few drinks when Tracey found a piece of wood, named it “Edward Woodward,” and declared it her best friend for the weekend. It became an inside joke that had everyone in stitches and is remembered with so much affection, a perfect snapshot of her humour, her playfulness, and the joy she brought wherever she went.
Tracey’s legacy is one of camaraderie, laughter, loyalty, and love. She was a leader, a competitor, a friend, and above all a cherished daughter, wife, mum, and sister. She will be missed more than words can say by the ladies of Lancashire, her teammates, her family, and her countless friends, but her spirit will live on in the hearts of everyone lucky enough to have known her. We at the Lancashire County Pool Association will always cherish her memory.
